dog log

well I guess I should get back to my dog exercise logging!

played fetch with Alki this afternoon. was pretty hot so she tired out fast. she actually laid in the pool on her own today! shocker! she also got a bath today. :)

played fetch with her not yesterday but both days prior. also had a very brief walk a few days ago.

the 4th was rough for both Alki & Brock. shes never seemed to have trouble before, but I think the combo of Brock's reactions and just the history in this house (lots of knocks/noise, etc--basically we need to work more on lowering her & Brock's noise reactions) set her up for a reactive fourth. I gave her and Brock stuffed kongs which kepts Alki busy for a while, Brock only briefly. then Tony & I took turns laying with (on) Brock, which seems to keep him calm--keeps him silent anyway. then when it got really loud, Tony sat with Brock & I sat next to Alki's crate and tossed in kibble after each boom and this worked perfectly. now I know for next time...will be better prepped. I also had music/tv on, a fan right next to the crates, and the stove top fans on in the next room. the following day (yesterday) Alki was very on edge most of the day, barking at noises she normally wouldnt (for example, when she and Royal were playing on the dog bed and they pushed it across the room a bit and it bumped the ceramic water bowl into the wall..) but I worked on a long-term down-stay with her next to my desk while playing WoW (easy peasy!) and this kept her happy and distracted. today she's been fine thankfully.

Ive only walked her once since Ive been back, kind of been nervous to get back out there since its been 6 wks.. Gotta get back at it.. We havent taken her out to run since Ive been back either; def need to do it soon.
